MODERNISM – 5

June 2, 2021

Today’s reading:
 Mark 12:18-27

Today our Church is infiltrated with modernists, who are overturning the word of God. They are misled and are misleading the people of God. “Are you not misled because you do not know the scriptures or the power of God?” (v.24). Just like the Sadducees in Jesus’ time, these modernists include clerics and hierarchs.

The Sadducees “say there is no resurrection” (v.18a). Today, a top hierarch says that when we die we just go “poof” and disappear into thin air. So there is no resurrection. This is obviously wrong teaching. It has many undesirable consequences on the Church and the faithful.

Then the Sadducees, because they believed there was no resurrection, tried to trap Jesus to disprove the existence of the afterlife, and posed what they thought would be a dilemma if there was a resurrection. Whose wife would the woman married to seven be at the resurrection?

Today modernists are mangling the whole aspect of marriage as God intends, by their embrace of the culture of DEATH.

“As for the dead being raised” (v.26a), Jesus quotes Exodus about God telling Moses, “I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” (v.26c). Then Jesus says, “He is not God of the dead but of the living.” (v.27a). God had declared that He was still the God of those who had died, and if so, those who had died must still exist, and if so, then there must be an afterlife.

If there is an afterlife, and indeed if God is God of the living and the dead, these have profound consequences for us.

Modernists in the Church are doing great damage to the faith. Thus we must know our faith. Let it not be said of us: “You are greatly misled.” (v.27b).
