MODERNISM
(Part 47)

DARKNESS AND LIGHTIS YOUR FATHER?

Today’s gospel:  John 3:16-21

“People preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil.” (v.19b). Evil works used to be done in darkness, in the shadows, in secret, away from the light. This way the evildoers thought they could escape notice and condemnation. “For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed.” (v.20).

But today, and this is one reason why we can know we are already in the end times, evildoers are all out in the open, not ashamed, and in fact proud of their sin.

  • Prominent Catholics who are rabidly pro-abortion claim to be devout and insist on receiving Holy Communion.
  • Liberal priests publicly bless same-sex unions.
  • LGBTs flaunt their disturbed, destructive and demonic lifestyle in Gay Pride parades.

And the worse thing is, because they have been deceived by modernist teachers and pastors, these evildoers believe they are not doing wrong. When Jesus came into the world, “the light came into the world” (v.19a). The light was intended to expose the evil that lurked in the darkness. But today the evil is out in the light, in plain sight, but evildoers have not repented. They in fact believe that sin is virtue.

  • The world celebrates abortion as healthcare.
  • Homosexual couples insist on their unions and even marriage because of love.

Even worse is that liberals have not turned against Jesus, but they have overturned Jesus, into a Lord according to their own designs. They look to the words and acts of Jesus, but interpreted according to their secular humanist thinking.

  • Jesus called Judas “friend” and kissed him, so Judas was not condemned and is not in hell. (Judas was the one who kissed Jesus, as the signal for his arrest).
  • Jesus presided over the miracle of the multiplication of loaves and fish, which happened because people shared what they had with each other. (The people actually had nothing to eat, and Jesus performed a miracle).
  • Jesus welcomed and embraced sinners. (Indeed, but he also told them to sin no more).

Jesus came so that people “might not perish but might have eternal life.” (v.16b). But it is their choice. Liberals and modernists have already chosen.

  • They choose the lie for the truth.
  • They choose to live in darkness while “being in the light.”
  • They condemn themselves by their unbelief or their false distorted belief.
