FROM THE SERVANT GENERAL MODERNISM (PART 65) |
SHOWING NO PARTIALITY January 7, 2024 Today’s reading: Acts 10:34-38 Peter says, “God shows no partiality.” (v.34). Modernists can take this and say all are welcome, all are to be accepted and accompanied, there is to be diversity, there should be no rigidity. Well and good. But Peter goes on: “Rather, in every nation whoever fears him and acts uprightly is acceptable to him.” (v.35). Modernists skip this part. For them there is no focus on sin. But God does not just accept everyone. He accepts those who fear Him and strive to be righteous. That means obeying His laws and repenting of sin. Peter further says of Jesus, “He went about doing good” (v.38b). Modernists take this and say we should be good and nice and considerate of others. We should be welcoming. We should try to make others happy by doing good. Again, well and good. But Peter goes on about Jesus: “He went about doing good and healing all those oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.” (v.38b). Jesus healed those oppressed by the devil, and the most basic oppression is bondage to sin. He healed them physically, but more importantly told them to repent and sin no more. “God was with him” and what is important to God is not just societal acceptance but a full reconciliation with Himself. Modernists have likened the Church to a field hospital, that goes out to minister to those who are wounded and sick. Well and good. But the doctors and nurses of that hospital will not just gather the wounded and sick, and make them comfortable, but rather they would work to heal them of their infirmities. They are not just accepted and welcomed in the field hospital, but are treated so that indeed they might become well. * * * |
