FROM THE SERVANT GENERAL MODERNISM (PART 67) |
ASKING FOR A BLESSING – 2 January 12, 2024 Today’s gospel: Mark 2:1-12 The gospel today is about the healing of a paralytic. Four men brought a paralytic to Jesus by making a hole in the roof, because they could not get near enough to Jesus due to the big crowd. “When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, ‘Child, your sins are forgiven.’”(v.5). This got the scribes murmuring among themselves, saying that Jesus was blaspheming because only God can forgive sin. The paralytic and his friends were seeking to be blessed, for the paralytic to be healed by Jesus. And did Jesus oblige them? He would later, but first he forgave the man his sins. A blessing from God is given so that one might be healed of infirmity, especially the infirmity of sin, and be made right with God. Today, with Fiducia Supplicans, Church modernists are offering priestly blessings to same-sex couples. They claim that it is not to legitimize sin, but to provide grace and strength with which to overcome their irregular (read: sinful) situation. That is nonsense. A same-sex couple will seek such a blessing not to be freed from the sinful condition, but to be affirmed in the sinful relationship. Fiducia Supplicans offers false mercy to the sinful person. Rather than praying for a sinner to be freed from his sin (notice that the document does not even mention repentance for sin), the blessing makes the sinner comfortable in his sin. Why does he need to change after all, since he is already being blessed as he is? With the healing of the paralytic, the people “were all astounded and glorified God, saying, ‘We have never seen anything like this.’” (v.12b). Tragically, today in our own time, we have never seen anything like what is happening to our Church at the highest levels, where the hierarchy directs the blessing of same-sex couples, in effect blessing the same-sex union, in effect blessing the sin. We must resist Fiducia Supplicans, as very many Cardinals, bishops, priests and prominent lay people are already doing. We must be rid of the modernist insanity. We must return to authentic faith, as taught by Jesus and the apostles and not by modernists. We must not mock God by blessing what is sin. We must not look to favor man while violating the righteousness of God. Only then can Catholics, like the crowds in Jesus’ time, be astounded and glorify God. * * * |
