JESUS IS THE ONE TRUE LIGHT

Today’s gospel: John 3:16-21
Modernists say that all religions lead to the divine. As such they deny the preeminence of the one Savior Jesus Christ and the one true faith of Christianity. Modernists say that people just need to be nice and good to others, and to do good works. As such, atheists and unrepentant sinners can make it to heaven if they are nice people. This is contrary to the authentic gospel that necessitates repentance and faith in Jesus in order to be saved.
This is what John wrote:
- “…. everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. …. that the world might be saved through him.” (v.16-17). It is faith in Jesus that leads to salvation and eternal life.
- “…. whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” (v.18b). There is only one name by which one is saved, and that is Jesus.
Jesus is “the light (that) came into the world” (v.19a) to drive out the darkness of sin and evil. Tragically, many “people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil.” (v.19b). This is the case today, two millennia after Jesus came, and people remain in darkness.
Now Jesus established his Church in order to guide and care for his people. Church pastors stand in his place, teaching and forming people in the one true faith. Tragically, many pastors today, including hierarchs, are remiss. Or worse, they have become wolves among the sheep, modernists that teach people what is contrary to the gospel and the teachings of Christ and the apostles. Instead of bringing people to the light, they have been plunged deeper into darkness.
We must know that Jesus is the way and the truth and the life, and that no one comes to the Father except through him. Jesus is the only Savior. We are not to follow the father of lies, but come to the truth, and know that “whoever lives the truth comes to the light.” (v.21a).
