Modernism (Part 73) – Jesus is the Cornerstone

MODERNISM

(Part 73)

JESUS IS THE CORNERSTONE

April 21, 2024

Today’s readings:

Acts 4:8-12

Psalm 118:1,8-9,21-23,26,29

1 John 3:1-2

John 10:11-18

In our readings today, the scriptures help us refute various Modernist teachings.

Modernist teaching: all religions lead to the divine.

This is religious indifferentism. But the reality is that there is only one Savior. “There is no salvation through anyone else, nor is there any other name under heaven given to the human race by which we are to be saved.” (Acts 4:12). The Modernist teaching is deadly, because it can cause people to put their faith in other religions or gods, which of course will deprive them of salvation. Our healing, both physical and spiritual, is only at the hands of Jesus. As Peter said of the cripple who was healed, “in his name this man stands before you healed.” (Acts 4:10b).

Modernist teaching: just look to the well-being of man; be nice and kind to others.

While Christians should be nice and kind to others and look to the well-being of their fellow man, compassion that arises from political correctness, which does not take into account the righteousness of God, is not an aspect of faith. “Better to take refuge in the Lord than to put one’s trust in mortals.” (Ps 118:8). We should be wary of Church hierarchs who teach otherwise. “Better to take refuge in the Lord than to put one’s trust in princes.” (Acts 118:9).

Modernist teaching: all peoples are part of an international fraternity; we are brothers and sisters to one another.

This conforms to Freemasonic teaching. But authentic brotherhood is only in Christ. It is in and through Jesus that we become children of God. It is not descent from Adam and Eve, or even from Abraham, that determines our fraternity, but restoration to the Father through Jesus. “See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God.” (1 Jn 3:1a).

If we love others just on a human level, we actually deprive them of what God wants for them. If we do not proclaim Christ, peoples will not be brought to life-saving faith, but will just admire us for our good works. If we do good just out of humanism, then people will not know our true identity as Christians, who do good work out of love for God, and will thus not be led to God. “The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” (1 Jn 3:1c).

Modernist teaching: do not proselytize, that is, being people to conversion to the one true faith.

To bring people to conversion and faith in Jesus is the marching order for all disciples of Jesus, given right before he ascended into heaven. Jesus won salvation for us on the cross. “I will lay down my life for the sheep.” (Jn 10:15b). This salvation is meant for all peoples. Those who do not know Christ are to be reached out to, with the gospel to be proclaimed to them. “I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and there will be one flock, one shepherd.” (Jn 10:16). All are to be brought to the one true faith, which is Christianity. More specifically, all are to be brought into the one true Church, the only one Jesus established, which is Catholicism.

Modernist hierarchs in the Church bring people away from God, by keeping them in false religions. They are not true pastors but only hired hands who do not have the interest of God at heart. “A hired man, who is not a shepherd and whose sheep are not his own, sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away, and the wolf catches and scatters them. This is because he …. has no concern for the sheep.” (Jn 10:12-13). This is why such modernist hierarchs are all in with collaborating with such worldly entities as the UN, seemingly doing good but promoting evils such as abortion and LGBT.

Jesus is the cornerstone (Acts 4:11) and is the good shepherd (Jn 10:11a). Salvation is only in and through him. Do not let Church modernists tell you otherwise.
