THE NAME OF THE KING

Today’s psalm: Psalm 72:1-19
Today’s psalm is about the Israelite king who is the representative of God and through whom blessings come not just to the people but to the whole world. A nation and the world would be privileged to have such a king. Now we as the people of God do have a King. He is the King of all kings. He is Jesus.
As Missionary Families of Christ, we have Jesus as our King. We are founded on the Rock that is Christ.
We are “of Christ.” We carry the name of Christ. As Christians first of all, but more especially as MFC. This is the name that is above every other name. This is the name by which we endure, by which we remain faithful until the end of time. “May his name be forever; as long as the sun, may his name endure.” (v.17a). With this name we shine forth like the sun, bringing the light of the Lord to dispel the darkness in the world.
We are “Families.” We work for the renewal of families. Starting with our own, but then reaching out to all other families. We realize the crucial importance of the family for the world, and that the family today is under all-out assault from the forces of evil. We know that only with stable and renewed Christian families, all under the lordship of Christ, can there be peace on earth. Only as we become the one family of God can we all receive the fullness of blessings God has prepared for His people. “May the tribes of the earth give blessings with his name” (v.17b).
We are “Missionary.” We do mission in the world. Starting with our own immediate environments, then radiating out in ever-growing circles, until we reach the very ends of the earth. We share Christ to the whole world, so that all peoples can know Christ and start to live Christ. “May all the nations regard him as favored.” (v.17c). We look to making disciples of all the nations. “May all kings bow before him, all nations serve him.” (v.11).
We go forth as MFC in the name of Christ, being founded on the Rock that is Christ. “Blessed be his glorious name forever; may he fill all the earth with his glory. Amen and amen.” (v.19).
