FROM THE SERVANT GENERAL
OUR THEME FOR 2020
(Part 29)
BLESSED BY AARON
January 1, 2020
Today’s readings:
Numbers 6:22-27
Psalm 67:2-8
Galatians 4:4-7
Luke 2:16-21
In this new year, we continue to look to our basic work, that of family renewal and evangelization. We are families on mission and have taken on the name given us by God, that of Missionary Families of Christ.
Just like the shepherds at the birth of Jesus, we have gone “in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger.” (Lk 2:16). We found the Holy Family. And we in turn have been brought into the family of God. “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to ransom those under the law, so that we might receive adoption.” (Gal 4:4-5). We are God’s children, as “God sent the spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying out, ‘Abba, Father!’” (Gal 4:6). We are families of Christ.
But we are also missionary families. Just like the shepherds, we have gone forth and proclaimed the good news of salvation in Jesus. “When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told them about this child.” (Lk 2:17). We meet Jesus, we live Jesus, and we share Jesus. We go forth as holy warriors to make him known to the whole world. “So shall your way be known upon the earth, your victory among all nations.” (Ps 67:3).
As we enter into this new year, we look to being built on the Rock that is Christ, as we live out who we are and what we have been called to do, as Missionary Families of Christ. We continue to ask for God’s anointing, and receive the Aaronic blessing upon us all.
“The Lord bless you and keep you!
The Lord let his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you!
The Lord look upon you kindly and give you peace!”
(Nm 6:24-26)
Now let us go forth to make Jesus known throughout the world. “May God bless us still; that the ends of the earth may revere him.” (Ps 67:8).
