ALPHA AND OMEGA – 2

Today’s reading: Revelation 1:5-8
Jesus says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the one who is and who was and who is to come, the almighty.” (v.8). Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Yesterday, Jesus “freed us from our sins by his blood” (v.5b). Jesus went to the cross, shed his precious blood, and won for us our salvation. He freed us from the clutches of the evil one. He restored us in our relationship with the Father.
Today, Jesus “has made us into a kingdom, priests for his God and Father” (v.6a). Jesus has made us the people of God. We are the Church, the community he established on earth. We are a people living in the Spirit, used to serve God and proclaim the Son throughout the world.
As to forever, “he is coming amid the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him.” (v.7a). Jesus will come again in glory. He will judge the living and the dead. He will separate the sheep from the goats, and the sheep he will bring to everlasting life in heaven.
And so to “Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead and ruler of the kings of the earth, …. to him be glory and power forever and ever. Amen.” (v.5a,6b).
