FROM THE SERVANT GENERAL
OUR THEME FOR 2025
(Part 12)
NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR GOD
December 19, 2024
Today’s readings:
Judges 13:2-7,24-25a
Psalm 71:3-6,16-17
Luke 1:5-25
The psalmist says, “You are my hope, Lord” (Ps 71:5a). In a world in deep darkness of sin and evil, in our lives full of heartaches and woes, in a future that seems to offer little hope for justice and peace, these words are a lifeline. We have an all-powerful God in whom we can put our hope.
But we need to look to our God, to enter into a deep relationship with Him, to put our whole trust in Him, to turn over our lives to Him. We need to know Him for who He truly is, and ask Him to actively form and care for us. “Be my rock of refuge, my stronghold to give me safety; for you are my rock and fortress.” (Ps 71:3).
Amidst the evil all around us, of people, groups, institutions, ideologies and circumstances, we implore Him, “My God, rescue me from the hand of the wicked, from the clutches of the evil and violent.” (Ps 71:4). Only God can ultimately keep us safe, and even in afflictions He allows our way, He give us the strength to endure.
We know nothing is impossible for God. Jesus performed many miracles. And look at the astonishing miracle of old and barren women conceiving and giving birth. This was the case with Manoah’s wife (Jgs 13:2-3,24) and Zechariah’s wife Elizabeth (Lk 1:7,18,24).
Let us believe, and aver to God, “my hope in your never wavers.” (Ps 71:6c).
In great hope, let us experience the miracles of God in our lives. And then let us share the incredible mercy and love of God to one and all. “I will speak of the mighty works of the Lord” (Ps 71:16a).
