OUR THEME FOR 2025
(Part 8)
HOPE IN THE LORD
November 6, 2024
Today’s reading: Psalm 27:1,4,13-14
David asserts, “Put your hope in Yahweh” (v.14a). Why can we hope in the Lord?
- Because “Yahweh is my light” (v.1a). God lights up the way for us. We need never be lost in darkness, or not find the true path, or trip and fall.
- Because “Yahweh is my salvation (v.1b). Jesus already saved us through his great sacrifice on the cross. As such, he will not withhold any good thing from us.
- Because “Yahweh is the fortress of my life” (v.1d). The Holy Spirit protects us from the slings and arrows of the enemy, keeping us safe and secure in His love and care.
We need never be afraid (v.1c), because we put our trust in God. The opposite of trust is fear. In Jesus we face the future and wait on the Lord with courage and strength, with boldness and stoutheartedness.
Then we will attain to the one thing we seek, which is “to dwell in Yahweh’s house all the days of my life” (v.4a). Imagine enjoying the sweetness of Yahweh and gazing on His beauty (v.4b) forever!
But such joy will not just be in the afterlife, but in the here and now. We “shall see the goodness of Yahweh in the land of the living.” (v.13). In all these does our hope abound.
