FROM THE SERVANT GENERAL
OUR THEME FOR 2020
(Part 69)
TO DEMONS OR TO GOD
September 12, 2020
Today’s readings:
1 Corinthians 10:14-22
Luke 6:43-49
In today’s gospel, we encounter Luke’s version of our theme verses about being built on rock, about two persons who both listen to Jesus’ words, but one acts on these and the other does not (Lk 6:47-49). To the latter, the basic operative question of Jesus is: “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ but not do what I command?” (Lk 6:46). So here are two Christians, but only one is truly founded on Christ.
There are very many so-called Christians in the world. In fact, one-third of the population of the world is Christian, that is, at least nominally. But the sad reality is that most of them are not really truly Christian in their actions. 99 of the 100 sheep are actually lost. There are many who live evil lives, regularly committing sin by violating the commandments of God.
Then there are those who are quite egregious in their sin. We look at two of four sins that cry out to heaven for vengeance.
First, in today’s contemporary setting, there are those who claim to be devout Catholics and insist on receiving Communion while being aggressively pro-abortion. Abortion is murder. It is demonic. It is sacrifice of the unborn to Baal. Now Jesus tells us, “You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and also the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and of the table of demons.” (1 Cor 10:21).
Second, there are those clerics who celebrate Mass, consecrate the bread and wine, but are for LGBT, working to normalize homosexual relationships. Is not what the Bible and our Church through the ages say about homosexuality clear? Homosexuality is intrinsically disordered, and homosexual relations are grave sins. Sodomy is one of the four sins that cry out to heaven for vengeance. Jesus says, “The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?” (1 Cor 10:16).
How can it be? Are the consciences of these Catholics so disordered or deformed? How can they mix the sacred with the diabolical? Paul says, “I mean that what they sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, not to God” (1 Cor 10:20a). The very celebration of the Eucharist, the highest form of worship for us Catholics, is being dirtied by blatantly sinful celebrants and participants. The dirty hands of homosexualist priests and the dirty hearts of pro-abortion communicants all taint the Eucharistic host. What is to be said to them? “I do not want you to become participants with demons.” (1 Cor 10:20b).
Indeed, many Catholics today have built their houses without a solid foundation. And they are not only destroying themselves, they are destroying many other lives. They produce rotten fruit, manifest today in the culture of DEATH, which has already infiltrated even our Church. “An evil person out of a store of evil produces evil” (Lk 6:45b). How can it be otherwise?
We as Christians belong to God, and we ought to be building our lives founded on the Rock that is Christ. There certainly is no room for demons in our lives. We live for God alone. “Or are we provoking the Lord to jealous anger?” (1 Cor 10:22a). “Therefore, my beloved, avoid idolatry.” (1 Cor 10:14).
