FROM THE SERVANT GENERAL
OUR THEME FOR 2021
(Part 9)
OUR MISSION – 2
Christmas Day
December 25, 2020
Today’s readings:
Isaiah 52:7-10
Psalm 98:1-6
Hebrews 1:1-6
John 1:1-18
“And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (Jn 1:14a). Our heavenly Father sent His very own Son Jesus into the world. “You are my son; this day I have begotten you.” (Heb 1:5a). To us a Savior is born. Merry Christmas to all!
And today, God impresses upon us as MFC our life and mission, according to the new theme He has given us for 2021. Our theme verse is this: “For so the Lord has commanded us, ‘I have made you a light to the Gentiles, that you may be an instrument of salvation to the ends of the earth.’”
In and with Jesus, “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (Jn 1:5). Jesus is the light of the world. But the world today is in the darkness of sin and evil. Such darkness is spreading. Jesus had said that we are the light of the world, but many of God’s people today have embraced the darkness. And many have not spread that light of Christ. This is what we are called to do, to spread “the true light, which enlightens everyone” (Jn 1:9a).
If we do so, then we become instruments of God’s salvation. That is our privilege, as well as our responsibility. When we do so, we are truly blessed. “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the one bringing good news, announcing peace, bearing good news, announcing salvation, saying to Zion, ‘Your God is King!’” (Is 52:7).
God intends this salvation for all. And so our work is worldwide, to the grassroots at the peripheries, to the very ends of the earth. “All the ends of the earth can see the salvation of our God.” (Is 52:10b).
Thus we go forth as God’s holy warriors. We go forth in the power and might of God. “The Lord has bared his holy arm in the sight of all the nations” (Is 52:10a). In God we already have the victory. “His right hand and holy arm have won the victory.” (Ps 98:1b).
We bring God’s light and God’s salvation to the world. “All the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God.” (Ps 98:3b).
