MODERNISM

(Part 80)

REFUTED BY SCRIPTURE

June 9, 2024

Today’s readings:

Genesis 3:9-15

Psalm 130:1-8

2 Corinthians 4:13-5:1

Mark 3:20-35

Modernist teaching contradicts the word of God and the teachings of Jesus himself. Many scripture passages refute modernist teaching. If we know the word of God, we will not be led astray by modernist teaching. We look at today’s readings and see how it all works.

First, modernists take it upon themselves to decide what is good and evil. For example, liberals and modernists favor LGBT, but for God active homosexuality is a grave sin. Adam and Eve ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, which God had forbidden them to do (Gen 3:11). The fruit was good and pleasing to their eyes, as is sin today. But only God knows what is truly good and evil. With modernism, man usurps what is of God and now decides for himself what is good and evil.

Second, we are sinners. Many no longer know, or refuse to know, what is evil. Such as abortion which is now not just universally accepted but even considered as healthcare. But we err. We overlook sin. The psalmist says, “If you, Lord, keep account of sins, Lord, who can stand?” (Ps 130:3). But modernists allow sinners to stand, even for active same-sex couples who literally stand before a priest to receive a blessing.

Third, with political correctness, modernists accept and accompany grave sinners but do not confront them with their sin. By acceptance, the sinner is confirmed in his sin, and has no incentive to repent or try to change. This is false mercy, as unrepented grave sin brings one to hell. It is only God who offers true mercy and forgiveness. “But with you is forgiveness …. For with the Lord is mercy” (Ps 130:4a,7b).

Fourth, there is hell and eternal judgment. Jesus says that “whoever blasphemes against the holy Spirit will never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an everlasting sin.” (Mk 3:29). But modernists say there is no hell, or if there is, there is no one in it.

Fifth, there is life after death. Paul tells the disciples that with death, “the one who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and place us with you in his presence.” (2 Cor 4:14). Death is our pathway to eternal life and to heaven. “For we know that if our earthly dwelling, a tent, should be destroyed, we have a building from God, a dwelling not made with hands, eternal in heaven.” (2 Cor 5:1). But modernists says that when we die, we just go “poof,” we just disappear. There is no life after.

Sixth, modernists therefore make us focus just on this life in this world, and be unmindful of what comes after death. But we are to “look not to what is seen but to what is unseen; for what is seen is transitory, but what is unseen is eternal.” (2 Cor 4:18).

Seventh, modernists talk of an international fraternity, where all peoples are brothers and sisters to one another. To modernists, all, including grave sinners, are part of the communion of saints. But for Jesus, the one who is truly part of his family is “whoever does the will of God” (Mk 3:33-35).

In Eden at the fall, God says to the serpent, “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; they will strike at your head, while you strike at their heel.” (Gen 3:15). The serpent is Satan, the woman is Mary, the new Eve, and her offspring is Jesus. Together they will deal Satan a mortal blow, even as Satan inflicts harm on Mary’s offspring (us). Thus Mary is fully engaged in spiritual war. She is co-Redemptrix (which a top hierarch has said is silly).

Now there have been many Marian apparitions that told of what was going to happen to our Church during these times, that there would be massive apostasy, that Satan would enter into the Church, that these would happen even at the very top. There are many modernists among our Church hierarchs, who are leading God’s people astray. Mary has warned us. Are you listening to her?
